2007-08 Requirements for the Ph.D. in Art History

Competence in English

Penn State requires that all candidates for the Ph.D. degree "demonstrate high-level competence in the use of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking." This requirement can be fulfilled in the Department of Art History by taking a 500-level graduate seminar and having the professor attest to your competence in the English language at the end of the course (form available in 228 Arts). This requirement should be fulfilled during your first two semesters of study (excluding summers).
